Early last spring, NK agronomists from across the Corn Belt shared their corn and soybean “products to watch” for 2022 — the hybrids and varieties they were most confident would earn farmers’ acres in their areas. As the growing season winds to a close, The Amplifier followed up to see how these predictions turned out.

This week, we hear from Great Lakes agronomist Mark Riehl to ask how his picks from the newest class of the Field Forged Series™ performed for Michigan farmers.

Mark’s corn hybrids to watch for 2022: NK0243, NK0877 and NK1188.

Early results indicate that these three products met expectations. They were consistent, reliable and versatile, and they consistently placed in the top one-third of trials for their maturity.

It’s always great to see a plan come together, but I want to also mention NK1082 and NK0440, two hybrids that exceeded expectations. Both have been consistently great, winning some high-yield plots in 2022 and completing our winning portfolio of NK corn products.

Mark’s soybean varieties to watch for 2022: NK22-C4E3, NK31-M7E3 and S35-E3.

The NK soybean lineup also performed to expectations. Specifically, NK22-C4E3 was again in the top 10 in several trials, and our marquee early Group 2 soybeans performed anywhere we placed them. We had high expectations for NK31-M7E3, and it too was a consistent, reliable and versatile variety. And for the third year in a row, S35-E3 met or exceeded farmer expectations across management styles and field types.

There were several noteworthy soybean standouts this year. I call NK33-W2E3 the “tax man” soybean because you can generate so much additional income potential from its performance that you’ll pay more money in taxes! In southern Indiana, NK36-H9E3 is the designated “pod mother” of NK soybeans — it’s a great addition to the NK soybean portfolio, and it’s a variety that our retail partners can confidently offer to Hoosier state farmers.
