- Similar to its first-year performance, Acuron delivered longer residual control with fewer late-season weed escapes
- First-year performance of Acuron Flexi provided broadleaf weed control with added flexibility
GREENSBORO, N.C., USA – As weed resistance continues to spread, Acuron® and Acuron® Flexi corn herbicides delivered broad-spectrum control to defeat tough broadleaf weeds and grasses during the 2016 season. Following a limited introduction of Acuron in 2015, growers across the Corn Belt turned to the herbicide for its longer residual control this year.
After EPA registration earlier this year, Acuron Flexi, formulated for atrazine-restricted areas, also delivered on its claims to control growers’ toughest weeds with added flexibility.
Acuron and Acuron Flexi users were asked through in-person interviews on their farms about their thoughts on the two herbicides, and growers most often named consistent broad-spectrum control and greater flexibility as key features.
Grower Rob DeFauw of Geneseo, Illinois, said multiple herbicides he previously used offered minimal control of giant ragweed and marestail. “So this year I tried Acuron because of the chemistry behind it. With three modes of action and four active ingredients, I was hoping to get ahead of the curve with my weed management practices. I am very pleased with the results of Acuron.”
For many growers in 2016, flexibility was an important feature when selecting a herbicide. The wide application window of Acuron (28 days pre-plant through 12-inch corn) and Acuron Flexi (28 days pre-plant through 30-inch corn) enabled effective weed control when heavy rainfall delayed herbicide applications.
“The most valuable thing about Acuron is its flexibility,” said Robert Ridgley, grower from New Florence, Missouri. “We can apply it at planting, or we can let the corn come up and apply post-emerge. From what I’ve seen with Acuron this year, I will definitely use it again.”

Besides application flexibility, growers benefitted from the geographic and tank mix flexibility of Acuron Flexi. Grower and retailer Mike Anders from Nerstrand, Minnesota, said, “The most beneficial feature of Acuron Flexi is having multiple modes of action already in the tank mix and having the ability to add atrazine where we can.”
