Davis will become the organization’s first Hispanic woman treasurer and hopes to inspire other leaders to give back
Greensboro, N.C., USA, December 14, 2023 – Ana Davis, head of health, safety and environment in North America at Syngenta, has been appointed to a three-year term as treasurer and member of the executive board at American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
AIChE provides leadership to the chemical engineering profession and has over 60,000 members spanning industry, academia and government, representing 110 countries. Davis, who will become AIChE’s first Hispanic woman treasurer in January 2024 said, “I humbly accepted this opportunity to give back to my profession, represent Syngenta and help position AIChE as the premier global institution where all chemical engineers can connect, discover and grow.”
According to Davis, chemical engineering has evolved into a boundaryless profession with a broad reach that poses a transformational opportunity for the next phase of AIChE, its members and chemical engineering around the world.
During her term, Davis will serve in multiple leadership roles. As treasurer, she will oversee the organization’s financial budget and report financial status. As a member of the executive committee, she will act on behalf of the board of directors when the board is not in session. In addition, Davis will support the AIChE technical committee which oversees the strategy for various technical groups and will serve on the governing board of the AIChE’s Center for Process Safety, of which Syngenta has a long-standing partnership.
“I am truly humbled by this opportunity. The voting members of AIChE have placed their trust in me and I will work extremely hard to deliver results. I’m looking forward to helping strategize offerings for our chemical manufacturing community, specifically around building process safety competency for the next generation, using different digital channels.”
Davis says working at Syngenta over the past 14 years has been instrumental in her career development and she is eager to leverage her skills and encourage other leaders to do the same. She is passionate about the profession and is a distinguished alumni of North Carolina State University’s chemical and biomolecular engineering department.
“I hope my journey inspires others to find their passion and give back in whatever capacity they can. Every time I meet an early career chemical engineer, I am reminded that I was in their shoes once, and it really takes a village to help someone reach their greatest potential. Contributing positively to someone’s journey is a gift that keeps on giving!”
