Syngenta recommends Iowa growers look beyond 2015

  • Conditions in 2015 confirmed that growers should prepare for the unexpected in 2016 by not relying solely on one hybrid
  • Golden Harvest® Corn portfolio features a range of hybrids to help maximize yields
MINNETONKA, Minn., USA, – In an excessively wet year where poorly drained fields and late-season disease pressure posed many challenges for Iowa growers, it may be tempting in 2016 to choose the corn hybrids that best survived 2015. While last season’s results should not be ignored, Syngenta agronomists recommend that growers still select a diverse range of hybrids to maximize their yields.

“Through diversification, growers can take their yields from good to great and avoid relying on one product to make or break the season,” said Mark Miller, product development agronomist at Syngenta. Golden Harvest® Corn hybrids are tailored for each field’s individual needs and, with a broad portfolio, allow growers to be prepared for many growing conditions.

“While it can be easy to choose what did best last season and stick with the same hybrid for the next season, it’s important to spread risk and plant a variety of hybrids,” Miller said. “As we all know, Mother Nature always has something unexpected up her sleeve, so it’s a good idea to be prepared for anything.”

Key hybrids for Iowa growers to consider for 2016 include:
  • G01P52-3122A brand: An Agrisure Artesian® hybrid, G01P52-3122A brand maximizes yield when it rains and increases yield when it doesn’t while maintaining dependable stalk strength and superior late-season plant health.
  • G07F23-3111 brand: G07F23-3111 brand contains the Agrisure Viptera® 3111 trait stack, providing the industry’s best protection from above- and below-ground insects to deliver excellent stalk strength for late-season standability.
  • G14R38-3000GT brand: With the Agrisure® 3000GT trait stack, G14R38 brand has superb root and proven strong stalk strength. In 2015, a grower reported that the hybrid yielded up to 250 bu/A in Manilla, Iowa.
With Golden Harvest Corn, we aim to help growers achieve high yields by placing hybrids matched to their fields,” said Tim O’Brien, Ph.D., Golden Harvest Corn product manager at Syngenta. “By using a unique pool of corn genetics – and adding breakthrough traits and technologies – the diverse Syngenta portfolio of hybrids provides growers options to unleash the potential of each field and finish with strong yields year in and year out.”
